Booth Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System for the
general collection. Understanding the LC Classification System
will help you find materials in the library. |

CALL NUMBERS |
|
Every item in the library has a call number to identify it. Library of Congress call numbers consist of: |
|
Class
numbers--one or two letters and a number, sometimes followed by a
decimal, a letter, and more numbers.
Example: HC 167 .A34 |
| The following are examples of LC call numbers for books arranged in the order in which they would appear on the shelf with the call numbers on their spines: |

Class numbers
correspond to subjects. Generally
materials on the same subject will be shelved in the same section with
similar call numbers. |
