Robin McClintock

Robin McClintock was born and raised in New York. After graduating in 1981 from The State University of New York, College at Purchase she made a living as a printmaking instructor and a professional printmaker making editions for established artists. In 1986 she retreated to her Lower Manhattan studio to focus on making abstract paintings and works on paper while supporting herself as a general contractor. In 1998 she moved from Lower Manhattan to Tucker County, West Virginia with her husband Michael, a sculptor; historic millwork specialist and cabinetmaker.

Influences on her work include urban and rural landscapes, memory, movement of light, weather, music, baseball and the passing of time. Since moving to rural West Virginia five years ago new influences include maps, charts, compass roses, Appalachian quilts and baskets.  Some of the works on paper in this exhibition were influenced by the events of September 11, 2001

On a technical note, the woodcuts and etching plates used in this work began as drawings that were scanned to a computer file and laser cut to blocks and plates thanks to the invaluable assistance of Paul Schreffler of the WoodTech Center.  This process was itself a strong influence on the direction of this work.

Robin's paintings and drawings are in corporate and private collections and have been part of solo and group shows, and she has been the recipient of several artist grants. Robin has annually donated works to the Randolph County Artsbank and is active in various local organizations that promote sustainable economic development in our area.
