John Warner

Tucker County, West Virginia resident John Warner taught himself photography while poking around looking at things.  He is best known in this country for his water photographs of the Dry Fork River/Otter Creek area where he has lived and photographed since 1977.  He has also traveled, studied and lived in Mexico for much of the last 40 years, and there he is best known for his intimate and straightforward portraits of subjects as diverse as people, plants and architecture.

The photographs here represent recent work - or recently printed work - from both these areas, with an emphasis on Mexico.  “These last ten years or so have been incredibly productive for me.  Living right on the river means I don’t have to ‘decide to go photographing.’  I’m here, right in the middle of it, all the time.  When the light’s right, all I have to do is grab my camera and shoot.  And in Mexico, it’s much the same - there’s incredible subject matter - and great light - nearly everywhere you turn.”

John is also the instructor for his Mexico Photography Workshops, which he conducts in Oaxaca and Veracruz States.
