Donell McCoy, a
West Virginia
native, had her art interest piqued at a very early age by her mother
who was also an artist and teacher.
She has been seriously involved in watercolors for more than two
decades and has particular interests in still life and architectural
structures as subjects of many of her paintings.
Along the
way to becoming more involved in art, her studies with local artists Kay
Gillispie and Lotus MacDowell
have had a noticeable impact on her development as an accomplished
artist. Continuing to develop her style, she has taken numerous
workshops across the country in Hilton Head Island, SC; Santa Fe, NM;
and Boone, NC with nationally know artists Bill Vrscak,
Joseph Bohler, and Betty Carr.
Donell’s
sense of perspective, use of contrast, and extreme attention to detail
now result in a true style of realism. Much like many artists, she is
constantly aware of her surroundings, is fascinated by the changing
light around her, and captures many subjects for future paintings with
her camera, which is rarely not at her side.
Donell
is a long standing member of the Seneca Trail Artist’s Guild (WV), the
Sedona (AZ)
Art
Center
, and a former member of the Hilton Head (SC) Art League.
She lives in Parsons with her husband Ken who practices his
“art” in the form of fly fishing.
